Android DAC compatibility list (community updated)

This is a tread to gather experiences on what phones works and doesn't work with the Hifime DACs. Please submit your phone model and software version if it is not listed below.

In general, the Android and Tiny model works with most phones as it uses a simpler and older USB receiver chip (PCM2706).

Android Lollipop 5.0 is supposed to support USB DACs out of the box, however it seems that some phone makers still haven't implemented DAC support even for 5.0

Hifimediy Android and Tiny DAC

This is the recommended DAC for Android, as it works with most phones, and the Android model comes with a microUSB cable that plugs directly into the phone

Should work with most Android phones running android 4.2.2 and above.

Note: Several reports that the sound is mono with the Tiny/Android models under Android 6.X - Please send a message if you have it working in stereo in Android 6 with this model.

2 people have this question

Hi there, does it work with Samsung J5 ,android 7.0

@Hank

it depends what DAC model you refer to.  The Android/Tiny model should work. Regarding the Sabre 9018 model - it might have some skipping/stuttering issues as it happens with some Samsung's.

Is there anyway I can make this work without having to buy UAPP? Im from huawei gr5 2017 with the hifimediy sabre 9018 usb dac via otg cable.

@ Reyden. In our experience some Huawei phones doesn't seem to support usb audio at all. What you can try is the free program HIbyMusic. It is similar to UAPP.

Hi there, Nexus 5X with Android 8.0 Oreo here working really well with Sabre Android DAC. Am using this Tronsmart usb-c to micro-usb adapter to bridge the gap. Thanks for the nice product.

Hello to everybody!

I am new user of

UAE23 USB DAC (ESS Sabre ES9023+Savitech SA9023)

It seems that works on w764 home premium sp1 over a gigabite b85m-d3h motherboard, the volume and clarity of music has increased, above all volume..quality and clarity are a bit crisp from what i`ve benn listening.

I have nice flac files and nice active speakers,  so..

But positively surprised for the price, to say.

what i have to do to make it work over android both 5.1.1 , 4.4.2  and jelly bean? (if it could) or there`s one that works?

Usb audio player pro is needed?

Regards to everybody

btw, i have the next devices:

*Samsung galaxy tab a 2016 7"-wifi- tm-280 (android 5.1.1)

*Samsung galaxy core 2 (sm -g355hn) (android 4.4.2)

*Samsung Galaxy Young (GT-S5360) (android 2.3.6) ¿is possible that any dac works with it)?

Please if anyone has any dac running over those o.s , i`d aprrceiate any information.

Regards!

from what i`ve been trying:

*Samsung galaxy tab a 2016 7"-wifi- tm-280 (android 5.1.1) and *Samsung galaxy core 2 (sm -g355hn) (android 4.4.2) dont recognize at all the UAE23( excuse my English..) .
what i did was connecting it to them, its green light turns on, but when i press play in Poweramp and Tidal app to giving some examples, the devices dont sound.

what i`ve been doing bad?

First of all, for the best quality you need a bitperfect music streaming, without any affecting of OS mixer . Under Win7 you can use Foobar with ASIO drivers for that or WASAPI out at least. For bitperfect under Android you can use USB Audio Player Pro (UAPP is the best) or other direct players like Neutron, Onkyo, Hiby - all of them has their own usb audio drivers and streams audio directly to USB-DAC. But notice, they all monopolizes USB-DAC, so system cant use it at one moment. If you want all apps play through the DAC under Android, your need to check your ROM has snd_usb_audio driver first. Check this folder exists /sys/module/snd_usb_audio. Then open /proc/asound/cards as text to check your dac determined there. But you need the root access for further doing, so I will not go to the deep of that for now. I have tab a tm-280 too. It is bad for usb audio in case it uses dwc_otg usb driver from DisignWare. You can find info about interrupts from that driver and clicks and pops in sound of usb dac on Raspberry PI forums. You can try to use your tm-280 with UAPP with tweak#1 and 16 bit limitation. But any processor/bus load will be heared as a multiple clicks. So I not recommend that. I think better find any old SGS4 or any newer device for usb audio with usb host function.

Thak you for answering!

Your answer is very appreciate to me!

So i don`t have options to use it without rooting and so, so i`ll use it on the computer and anything else, such a pitty, even though i always was conscious of it, so, well...

So, a device with usb audio with usb host function will manage the dac without problems or clics through Poweramp or UAPP?

Excuse me if i didn`t understand something.
